Customized notification of users in Next®
Completely new feature that lets you customize the notifications each individual user of Next® gets.
The Notification center is relatively new to Next®. Before that, all notifications got to you as an email. The same email to everyone. At the same time. Set by the Next® admin. Having some of the notification as a discrete green dot in the right corner of the screen was a major step forward. Now we take it the next step, and allow you as Next® admin to customize who gets what notifications, and how. You may even let your users select some of them by themselves.
Next® comes with a long list of standard Notification services, and a default setup to make sure that everyone gets the most needed notifications.
Being notified immediately when the background task to merge 200 PDFs completes, or when someone asks them a question in Next®, probably makes sense to everyone using Next®.
But if the accounts payable assistants should be notified whenever an invoice is ready for them, or just receive a weekly summary of the ones still waiting, is for you to decide.
Enable the notifications services relevant to your company
We deliver a complete set of Notification services with Next®. Disable the ones you don't find relevant, and enable those you do. We suggest you do not delete any of the standard notification services - or for that matter add new ones. If you need other, let us know so that we can include it with the standard product.
Enable/disable Notification services as you wish, but use the standard notification services provided with Next®
Tailor notifications to specific needs
Now that you have enabled only the Notification services you believe to be relevant for your companies use of Next® its time to attend to specific users.
For each of the Notification services you as an admin determine who gets to use or subscribe to this Notification service. And if their subscription is mandatory or optional.
The notification about completed Background tasks is mandatory for everyone
The basic notifications such as Alarms, Background tasks, Watchers etc. we suggest to be mandatory. If a user deselects these notification, they will experience a crippled Next®.
For other notifications it may be completely different.
Maybe you insist that everyone should get the Monday morning summary of tasks waiting for them. Make it mandatory for all.
And offer them to get a Tuesday to Friday task summery. Make it optional - set everyone (all) as Potential subscribers.
How the uses sees it
Your setup determines how the users sees their notification settings.
A list of all the Notifications that are available to the individual. Some are optional and others are mandatory.
Do not give people access to Notification service that a not relevant to them. If they don't work with contracts, they should not see the services related to contracts. If you make the Notification settings easy to work with, you get happy users, that can manage their notifications by them selves.
We recommend you start of with Notification center, and add email, only if it's strictly necessary.
Missing a Notification service?
If there is a Notification service you would like to have, and its not in the list, check with us. Maybe its already on the way for the next release of Next®. You will notice that even if our notification emails look slightly nicer than before, they are far from perfect. In a future release, we will provide nicer looking template emails, and allow you to tailor them to your companies needs and design.
For the techies
Notification services are either timer driven or event driven.
When someone use Ask a colleague, the Notification must arrive instantly. That Notification service is event driven.
