Full text from image PDFs
New feature for those who use PDF automation in Next®.
The optional feature Next® PDF Archive option allow you to generate PDF and PDF/A version of your Microsoft Office documents and documents in HTML. This feature now also allows you to automatically generate a full text index from plain image PDFs using OCR technology.
You should always whenever possible get and archive text based PDFs.
But if what you can get is a plain image PDF, Next® can now help you by extracting textual information using advanced OCR technology.
In Next® you setup what document types you want to be processed.
Future enhancements
In a future release, the Next® PDF Archive option not only create a full text index, but also allow you to archive a copy of the PDF with text.
For the techies
OCR is not simple technology. Processing huge volumes of documents with OCR will take time and system resources.
Whenever you archive a document to be OCR processed, Next® will in the background perform OCR and create the full text index.
Also OCR is a qualified attempt to recreate the original textual information. No OCR process - ours included - are 100% correct.
