One-click combine PDFs

New optional feature for those of you who share collections of documents with customers or suppliers using PDF files.

All of last months invoices, every document related to a project, or the documentation for an insurance claim. Whatever.

  1. Find all the relevant documents in a search list, or (from next release) pick them one by one using Pin a document.
  2. Then click Combine PDFs.
  3. Send the resulting PDF to your business partner.

As easy as that.

Chose any search form, and fill in the search criteria.

Click Combine into PDF documents, to create a single PDF with all the PDF documents in your list

Click the Combine PDF documents icon below the list of documents to bring up the confirmation dialog.

Confirm the process you are starting. Pay close attention to the number of documents.

Instead of tying up your workstation, the export is processed as a background task. When the background task is completed,  you will receive a notification in your  with a link to the PDF with all your documents.

90 invoices combined into a single PDF, ready to share, in just 8 seconds .

The business log

When you start a background task it's logged in the business log.

ADLEO Started Combine PDFs.

And whatever changes your background task may perform to documents, will be logged as well.

Future enhancements

In the next release, you will be able to use Combine PDFs from you pinned documents too. Probably the easiest way to collect 20 individual documents to a customer or a partner.

In a future release of Next® you will be able to influence the layout of the PDF Next® creates.

Also in a future release, you will be able to let Combine PDFs include documents that does not yet have a PDF representation.

For the techies

Combine PDFs creates one single PDF from all the selected documents PDF representations. That is, if you select documents that do not have a PDF representation in Next®, they will not be included in the resulting PDF.  Also PDFs protected by passwords will be ignored.

Combine PDFs comes in a variant where the end user is prompted for a filename. For some that makes sense, for others it just complicates matters.

The file name is by default made up from the Search form used, and the current date - 'Customer documents - 15 May 2020.pdf'

One-click Combine PDFs is a specific implementation of Batch jobs for everyone, and others will come.

Please refer to the online product guide for additional information on this feature, once it is released.
