Information bearing folders
New optional features that allows you to create named folders with a predefined structure, capable of holding not only Documents but also groups of Metadata and one or more Digital works.
No final design have been made for this yet, but the mockup below indicates how folders are no longer just references to documents, but an entity in it self.
The specialized projects view is scheduled for a later release, but the underlaying technology to deliver it comes with Information bearing folders and Folders 2.0.

Future enhancements
As part of the work with Information bearing folders we deliver the initial edition of our Global data dictionary. The Global data dictionary allows us to define each data field only once, and use it easily in Folder templates, Search forms, and Data forms.
In a future release of Next®, we will deliver a complete predefined data dictionary with translation keys, so that all metadata labels are automatically available in your preferred language.
Besides data in Next®, the Global data dictionary will also describe data that is available from external sources to be viewed alongside data stored in Next®.
Information bearing folders and Folders 2.0 will be used to create several new Next® standard products.
- Next® Projects for managing documents and information related projects
- Next® Media to manage objects and information on publications, movies, and other media
- Next® CRM to manage documents and information on customers and prospects
- Next® PIM to manage documents and information on products
For the techies
Each folder refers to a Folder template. This template defines the folder's characteristics. A customer folder has different metadata than a project folder.
And the default list view for the documents in a customer folder is also different from the one you want in a project folder.
At the same time we eliminate the static filing object and replace it with searches.
Commercial terms and conditions
The feature comes with a separate license fee. Any consultancy assistance will be invoiced in addition.
The updated folder hit lists comes for free to users with an active service plan.
